Foundation 1

Welcome to F1!

Hello and welcome to Foundation 1

We have all settled well in to our new school and have made lots of new friends as well as meeting up with old ones!
This term we have been learning lots of new and exciting things through a range of different activities. Take a look at our pictures to see what we do in our classroom and outside it too! We have enjoyed music lessons outdoors, performing on our X factor stage, working together to complete puzzles, using Numicon to help us with our numbers, practicing our names on the white boards and much more.

We had great fun wearing our Onesies or pyjamas to raise money for our chosen charities on children in need day. Most recently we have been exploring the winter wonderland in our outdoors area where we can sing Christmas songs with masks, enjoy a Christmas story with a friend or go shopping at our Christmas market stall.

Can we please remind you that we change our books every Thursday and Friday, although it helps if book bags are brought in every day as we usually have a lot to bring home and it helps us to carry it all.

Thank you
I would like to start by saying a big welcome to all of the children who joined our class this month. They have settled in really well and all of the children are helping them to learn our school rules and the daily routine.
This month we have a lot of exciting things coming up, including our Chinese New Year celebrations where F1 will be performing a story for the rest of the school and parents. A letter will be sent out for this shortly. We are also having some visitors come in to read us a Chinese story and show us some traditional artifacts from China. Other topics will include world book day, mothers day, valentines, spring time and much more. We are working hard on our numbers in F1 and we are becoming much more confident at using Numicon to support us. Thank you for your continued support at home as every little helps. It is so important that the children have the basic counting skills and understanding of numbers as this helps with so much more throughout their school life. Reading logs are also looking great and I enjoy reading your comments. Please remember book bags every day as they help with carrying pictures and letters, as well as books. We are looking forward to a busy term and more dates for stay and play will be released soon so hope to see you then.

Thank You

Chinese New Year in F1.

F1 had a fantastic time learning lots about our Chinese new year topic. The children were really engaged with the theme and interested in Chinese culture and traditions. We had a Chinese story telling event where we listened to a story in both English and Chinese. We also got to look at different Chinese artifacts. Mrs Nagle made us some delicious Chinese food to taste including noodles and spring rolls. It was yummy! Finally, to end our topic we performed the story of the Zodia to the whole school and parents. It was such fun and we particularly liked the lion dance. We hope you enjoyed it too! Take a look at our pictures.
This term in F1 we have lots of exciting things planned. Now the sun is finally here (and hopefully stays) we will be looking at growth and changes a lot more and the children have already planted their very own plant to look after and observe over time. As we looked a lot at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk from our Traditional Tales topic last term, we have planted beanstalks. The children have begun to make their own bean diaries so they can record the changes that happen over time. This week we are starting our new Dinosaurs topic, although the children are still unaware of this for now. They discovered a large egg in the outdoor area and have been guessing who may have laid it as this is a clue to what our new topic will be. We've had some great ideas and can't wait for it to hatch! Please take a look at the curriculum overview for this term to see what other exciting things are on the agenda.
The end of the term will finish with some transition time for those getting ready to move into F2 in September. Where has the year gone!
Thank you for your continued support,
