Year 6

What has Year 6 done this year?  Read on and find out....

An Overview of Year 6:  2014-2015
Lots of exciting things happened last term:
We took part in a Children's Parliament workshop alongside Year 5.  We found this enjoyable and learnt a lot. We had a teambuilding day at Barnstondale in November, we have visited Rock Ferry Library and The Odeon Cinema to watch 'The House of Magic' a film about anti-bullying. Examples of the work we did on this theme are displayed along the KS2 corridor.  We have worked with Hi Impact to produce our own movie using Splice on the iPads and Roy visited us from West Wirral Works to support us in our writing.  We used Kar2ouche to produce fantastic pieces of writing based around the book 'War Horse'.  We have looked at how we can keep ourselves safe online with Mr Parker and more recently we worked with ChildLine looking our right to be safe.
So far this term we have begun to look at renewable energy.  We have had a few visitors in already this term. We had a writing workshop where we looked at conflict and resolution.  Becky came in to raise our awareness of road safety.  Hi Impact have been working with us again, this time showing us how to design our own game using Scratch.  We have continued with our visits to  Rock Ferry Library. We have also ran the tuck shop for the KS2 Film Afternoon.  We have been learning out about VAT. Mrs Saunders and Mrs Brewster took us to The Discovery Centre at Ridgeway to find out more about evolution.  We are currently working with a dance coach from Bebington High on a theme linked to the film Rocky.  We also had a themed week based around The Vikings.  Each class looked at a different theme related to The Vikings.  We looked at trade, food and clothing.
This term we had Roy Vernon returning to work with us.  He is from West Wirral Works.  We utilised our new found knowledge of The Vikings to produce wonderful pieces of writing.
We also visited Rock Ferry Library and Helen Hamer, our school nurse, came in to work with us.
Year 6 have worked REALLY hard and given 100% over the course of the year and this was reflected in our very pleasing SATs results!  They have made us feel very proud!  Well done to you all!!!!
We recently held our personalised Leavers' Assembly where the children were able to showcase what they had done over the year.  On Wednesday 15th July Year 6 visited Bromborough Bowl, proudly wearing their Well Lane Leavers' Hoodies.  Over the course of the year, the children had raised money which was used to purchase their hoodies. The transport costs of our visit were met by Pupil Premium funding and our PTA kindly donated money towards the cost of the bowling.  On Thursday 16th July Year 6 challenged the staff to a game of rounders and the rest of the school came out to support their team.  Support was split quite evenly between Year 6 and the staff.  It did bring out a slightly competitive edge amongst most of us!  Friday 17th July saw Year 6 and other classes entering 2 acts in Well Lane's Got Talent!  All in all, a fabulous ending to a very successful year!
Best wishes go from the staff to all of our Leavers of 2015!
A few photographs have been added to the foot of this page to give you a small insight into the fun we have had this year!
Thank you for inviting me to visit your Year 6 to deliver a Road Safety talk. The children were engaged and interested throughout the session and contributed by answering questions and sharing their own stories. I asked them to make sure they went home and told whoever looks after them at home what they learnt about Road Safety so that they could help pass the message on which they agreed to do. At the end they were able to feedback to me many different key Road Safety points clearly demonstrating that learning had taken place. I look forward to visiting Well Lane again next year.
