Music

At WLPS music is an enjoyable learning experience. We encourage children to participate in a wide range of musical experiences aiming to build the confidence, skills and knowledge of them all. Singing lies at the heart of our music teaching and children learn songs during assembly as well as in class as part of their curriculum. We have a School Choir who enjoy learning songs to sing for school performances and during special times such as Christmas and Easter. Through singing children learn the structure and organisation of music and we teach them to listen to and appreciate different forms of music. We also encourage children to develop an awareness of how music can represent feelings and emotions as well as teaching them the disciplined skills of recognising pulse and pitch. We also teach children to make music together, to understand musical notation and to compose pieces. Children in Year 4 thoroughly enjoy learning how to play the Ukulele and take great delight in performing to their families. Across school, we use Charanga to teach the music curriculum.
